We believe that coffee is better when looked at as a community.
Producers, buyers, roasters and slurpers all have a part to
play and are linked with each other. Rock Roasters use their coffee buying for good by sourcing beans from farmers that are recognised for their commitment to improving quality in their coffee and community.
We also pursue sustainable buying by direct trade and by supporting NGOs in coffee producing regions.
Our thoughts on sourcing coffee for better outcomes
Individual Sourcing
We see the potential in every bean we carefully source, tasting hundreds of samples from the coffee community across the globe.
We use our coffee sourcing as a way to not only find the best tasting beans but also support farmers and their businesses. Where possible we use direct sourcing - speaking directly with farmers to assess the quality of their beans, this means farmers set the price and are rewarded for the quality of their coffee. Where
we can’t source directly our coffee buying choices will always be driven by how
the farms support the community and their environment. We respect the effort and skill that coffee farming requires and aim to highlight the quality through our roasting.
Working with farmers direct
We work closely with our partners to source the best tasting and most impactful coffee we can find.
Farmers work incredibly hard to produce coffee and with very small reward. Thankfully we now have much better opportunities to support farmers at origin.
We buy our coffee based on flavour and quality, the coffee we buy benefits farmers as the high quality they deliver is rewarded with higher
returns.

As seasons come and go, coffees inevitably change.
The climate, soil, weather and farming practices all have a great impact on flavour.
Therefore every 8 -12 months we slurp our way through coffee harvests from across the globe to find the next best thing. Each crop is rigorously tested and tasted, and new coffees become part of our blends. This is so we can offer better and better coffee each year, whilst maintaining reliability and ultimately, great
tasting coffee.
